Let us go into the history of the company for just a bit then. It was only when World War II ended when Nikon launched its first camera, the Nikon I. In the 1950’s, Nikon decided to surpass the 35mm rangefinder camera that was released by a German company named Leica. Because of this, Nikon came to develop Nikon SP, back in 1957. And back then, the Nikon SP became the best Nikon camera that was sold in the market.

After this successful feat, Nikon then ventured into the production of Single Lens Reflex or SLR cameras. This was just two years after the Nikon SP was released. The Nikon F was then conceptualized, and just like its predecessor, it was also able to surpass the standards presented by its German counterpart, Leica. Because of this feat again, Nikon became known as the world leader when it came to SLR technology. The Nikon F became very hot in the market, with thousands of professional photographers and photo journalists buying them right of the shelves.

By the 1980’s, Nikon gained prominence once again. This time, for the production and development of the Nikon F3. This model was going to be used by the NASA for their expeditions in outer space. And NASA made it clear to Nikon that it was their technology that they had the most trust in. Nikon has to make a camera that could withhold the exposure to zero gravity, and this is exactly what the brand did. NASA was so impressed with the technology developed by Nikon for that particular camera, that it quickly gained popularity for that feat. And it got them more job orders for cameras with specifications to be made. This is indeed something that only Nikon can hold under its belt.

In the 1990’s, Nikon became even fiercer with its release of far more advanced SLR cameras. 1992, in particular, saw Nikon releasing the first-ever underwater SLR camera. The name of that model was NIKONOS RS. Nikon digital camera cases became a hit for these underwater cameras back then. In 1995, Nikon affiliated with Fuji Films, to come up with the following digital camera models, the E2/E2S. But it was only in 1997 when Nikon released its first-ever digital camera, the Nikon Cook Pix digital camera. The first model ever for that series was the COOLPIX100.

At present, Nikon is currently going under expansion again. Factories have even been opened up in the Netherlands and Poland. And it has continued with its prowess of bringing high-end digital camera technology to its customers and the rest of the world. With the many digital camera models being released by Nikon today, it is clear that this brand is not going anywhere anytime soon.
