Memory Cards

There are a lot of memory cards being used in the industry of digital cameras right now. Some of these memory cards are MemPlug. Compact Flash, Memory Stick., and other formats. Because of the many memory cards in the market, it would only make sense to pick the one that is appropriate for the brand and make of the digital camera you are using. And, mind you, it is not just the digital camera that makes use of a memory card at all. Mobile phones of different brands and makes also use these memory cards. In fact, mobile phones make use of the SD memory card and the micro SD memory card as well. It all depends on the brand and make of the mobile phone. So, if you are looking for a particular memory card, you would have to be sure what kind you are looking for first.

But why are digital camera memory cards very important? Can this modern gadget do without a digital camera memory card? Of course, it can! But let us discuss the technology of the digital camera before proceeding with these questions at hand.

First off, the main thing that sets digital cameras apart from the ordinary cameras we used to have is the fact that film is no longer needed to produce photographs with the digital camera. In place of film is the need for memory. Now, these gadgets have an internal memory of their own already. But this memory is not really that huge, in terms of capacity and such. And if you are using your digital camera to chronicle every day of a weeklong camping trip, then you will surely run out of memory. And this is where memory cards enter the picture.

Memory cards serve as supplemental memory slots for more storage of image files. Just buy the memory card that is most compatible with the digital camera that you have, and you are ready to go! Using memory cards is very easy as well! Add to the fact that memory cards are reusable, and you probably would be ready to just go out to your nearest store and get a memory card for your camera.

How are memory cards reusable? Just like the common USB drive, the digital camera can be connected to the personal computer directly. When the connection is established, you can now access the pictures that have been stored inside the camera’s memory card, and transfer them onto your PC. After the transfer, you then have the option of deleting the pictures, or just let them be for future reference. But deleting the pictures would then mean more space for your camera, thus, more pictures that can be taken!

Now, there are a number of memory cards that you can choose from, and these include the SD memory card, as mentioned already, the XD memory card, the Compact Flash memory card, and the Smart Media memory card. All of these memory cards have features that make each of them distinct from one another. The SD memory card, in particular, has a storage room of around 32MB to 2GB. This is actually the most popular of all memory cards. The XD memory card is newer than the SD memory card. But this memory card comes with only a 1GB capacity.

Compact Flash memory cards are robust in form, and has more storage capacity than the previous memory cards mentioned. Some CF memory cards even go all the way up to 8GB! And manufacturers have incorporated different speeds for the different kinds of CF cards as well! This makes recording of images faster, thus, giving the photographer shorter lag time in between shots. Now, the Smart Media card has been in the market for so long now, and is even considered one of the reliable memory cards out there. Lately, this memory card has been modified to have features like that of the CF memory cards. When buying the Smart Media card, make sure it is compatible with your camera.
