Digital Camera Filters

When you are into processing light effects for the pictures that you take, then you should be into digital camera filters yourself. But for the beginner in digital camera technology, digital camera filters are actually the things that are affixed in front of the lens of your camera. These digital camera filters can be in the form of glass disks or gelatin squares.

Digital camera filters are not that used that much today, as they were used in the past. This is because if you want to establish a particular light effect, you can now do this with a lot of computer software and applications. The popular of these applications is Adobe Photoshop. And these applications that support photo editing are accessible to anyone who has Internet connection, because these can be easily downloaded from numerous websites.

Still, there are things that only digital camera filters can do that no photo editing application or software can. There are certain filtration effects that only 52 mm digital camera filters can produce. The same can be said about 58 mm digital camera filters as well. This is why despite the decrease for the need to use digital camera filters, it would still pay to be familiar with the lot of them.

The first in line are the infrared digital camera filters. It is actually the digital SLR camera that makes use of this filter the most. This camera is very capable of capturing images in low-light situations. Images of dark clouds and skies would have more quality when taken by the digital SLR camera. However, an infrared filter is needed to block whatever visible light is left. Slow shutter speed is also inevitable because the light that is left for exposure effect is actually very little. So, if you are using an infrared filter, then you should be ready to take such shots. Another thing to remember about using the infrared filter is that you would not be able to preview the pictures that you take. This is because the SLR viewfinder would actually turn pitch dark once this filter is being used and mounted on the lens.

Next is the polarizing filter for digital camera. This kind of filter aims at the reduction of glare effects when taking pictures. There may be situations when there is low light, but there are still times when there would be shiny surfaces nearby. And these surfaces would reflect a glare when a picture is taken, especially when the flash is used. What is done here is that upon the attachment of the filter, you should rotate it into a position until the glare from the photo no longer appears. Photographers make use of this filter when they want to achieve deep contrast effects of the sky. Angles should also be considered when taking these shots. Just make sure that you purchase the circular polarizers, not the linear ones.

The third in line is the ND, or the Natural Density filter. The main purpose of this filter is to block light, but the colors are kept at a neutral state. This filter actually comes in different assigned filter factors. The effects they produce are actually different from one another. But these filters can be stacked or grouped upon each other to have a mix of effects of the filters. Just make sure that these filters would not appear in the image that you take. If the filters would appear in the image, chances are that your corners have been blocked. ND filters can also make objects invisible. Now, this is an art that needs to be mastered. And this can be mastered by a lot of trial and error on your part.
