Canon Digital Cameras

There are a lot of digital camera brands that you can choose from. But for some time now, a lot of people have been preferring Canon digital cameras to other brands. But what makes Canon digital cameras different from the other cameras in the market? And what particular features can Canon digital cameras boast of?

In order to answer all of these questions, it would be better to know the company that brought the Canon digital camera to life. It was actually way back in 1933 when the company started out. But it was not known as Canon when it first began. The company actually started out as Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory.

The first of the cameras produced by Canon was actually just a prototype named Kwanon. The Kwanon was not at par with the German cameras that were already in the market at the time. The German cameras were far more superior in terms of quality when compared with the Kwanon. But the Kwanon had just enough to compete with its German counterparts in the market. At the time, the cameras that were marketed under the label of Kwanon did not have lenses of its own. So, the company had to partner itself with Nippon Kogaku Kogyo, the forerunner of another camera company from Japan, which was Nikon. The first camera that was ever sold commercially by the partners was then named the Hansa Canon. This camera became a strong contender in the market and began its prowess in the year 1936.

After World War II, the company decided to change its name into what it goes by now, and that is Canon. The expansion of the company started slowly, but it was clear right from the start that Canon was going to make it big. And it was in the year 1996 that Canon hit another forefront in the digital industry. For it was this time when Canon released its first-ever digital camera.

No, it was not the Canon Powershot A630 digital camera. Nor was it the Canon PowerShot A530 digital camera. The first-ever digital camera released by Canon was actually the PowerShot 600. As expected, this camera does not have features as fancy as today’s Canon cameras have. But it did not take long for Canon to mix and match the features at the time, and came up with yet an improved model, which was the EOS D2000 digital SLR camera. Now, this was not like your ordinary Canon PowerShot digital camera because the SLR camera was just way, way better, in terms of versatility and flexibility. With this SLR camera, users could do more with the pictures they take, with enhancement in mind. The SLR camera also provided wider angle shots, which were not provided by the regular PowerShot camera developed by Canon. And yet another model followed that SLR camera with even better features! This was the XL1, which was even selected by NASA to be their very own official digital camcorder!

These days, it is the Canon Rebel digital camera that is taking the market by storm. The Canon Camera Digital Rebel XT is actually a tiny SLR camera, so small that it can sometimes be mistaken for a compact digital camera! But the specs of this camera make it very much an SLR camera. This camera still has 8-megapixel capabilities, but its sensor is a different story. Compared to that of the 8MP Canon PowerShot Pro-1, the image sensor of the Canon Camera Digital Rebel XT is way bigger! This guarantees a dynamic range that has been expanded, and a significant decrease in visible noise! Now, this is one camera that really lives up to the reputation of Canon digital cameras!
